FAQs

Can I drive home after Lasik Eye Surgery?

No, you should arrange to have someone drive you home after your LASIK surgery.

It is common to experience some blurriness and watery eyes after the procedure and after the numbing agent used during the Lasik procedure wears off. It is common for your eyes to be sensitive to light for up to a few hours after the procedure.

A mild sedative may be used during the procedure which may cause drowsiness. We recommend that you arrange for transportation to and from the clinic.

The best course of action is to have a friend or family member drive you home, and then you can relax or take a nap.

A clear and protective shield will be placed over your eyes after the Lasik procedure to keep you from rubbing, touching or hitting your eyes after your surgery.

During your follow-up and first post-operational exam, your eye doctor will check your eyesight to make sure you are authorized to drive without corrective lenses. Ask your doctor to give you paperwork to take to your local Motor Vehicles Authority so that you can have the "requires corrective lenses" restriction removed from your driver's license.

Will I need to do any Eye Exams after the Lasik Procedure?

It is advisable to have regular scheduled check-ups after your procedure to check the health of your eyes and to ensure that your vision remains stable. Lasik does not correct eye problems including glaucoma and cataracts and so it is important to adhere to your physician’s recommendations for follow-ups.

It is recommended to have your eyes checked once a year after your Lasik treatment.

It is important to ensure that you avoid aggressively rubbing the eyes immediately following the procedure as this could result in corneal thinning.

Will Lasik Eye Surgery correct Cataracts?

Lasik surgery will not correct vision problems associated with cataracts. Cataracts will generally worsen over time and may require surgery to halt this process.

Discuss this matter with your physician. Generally, Lasik eye surgery is not recommended for people with Cataracts but there are some exceptions to the rule. Consult your physician for details on which is the right path for you.

How old is old enough to have Lasik Eye Surgery?

It is advisable to be 18 and older before you have Lasik corrective eye surgery. It is important that the eyes are stable before the procedure.
